VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT

The Volunteer Code of Conduct clarifies expectations for volunteers and their interactions with staff, other volunteers, and the public. In volunteering, you are making a commitment to staff and the animals to carry out, to the best of your abilities, the tasks you have pledged to perform. Please read and sign below.

As a Volunteer for City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue (CDCK), I agree:

Volunteer Service
- My services are provided strictly in a voluntary capacity as a Volunteer and without any express or implied promise of salary, compensation, or other payment of any kind whatsoever.
- To carry out assignments in accordance with training and seek assistance from a Volunteer Lead or staff member when needed.
- To work in my assigned role and area unless otherwise directed by a Volunteer Lead or staff member.

Behavior and Ethics
- To be welcoming, patient, and assume good intentions of those you come into contact with.
- To conduct myself in a courteous and professional manner as a volunteer and as a representative of CDCK. This includes interactions at events and on all rescue-related social media platforms.
- To be conscious of communicating with a tone of kindness and respect. I will remember that written communication lacks vocal cues that help to convey tone and will not include negative, disparaging, or unhelpful comments about those I come into contact with.
- Not to represent CDCK outside my immediate volunteer capacity. CDCK engages designated spokespersons to handle the concerns of animal welfare issues.
- To be punctual and notify the Volunteer Lead or a staff person when I am unable to work as scheduled.
- To notify the Operations Manager if I choose to discontinue my volunteer service with CDCK.

Policies and Procedures
- To become familiar with and abide by all CDCK policies and procedures, and uphold its philosophy and standards. I will seek clarification when required.
- To handle all animals with respect and care and to ensure I utilize all proper handling and safety tools available at all times. I fully understand that CDCK expects high standards of moral and ethical treatment of the animals under its care. I will adhere strictly to these standards.
- To hold confidential information that I may obtain, concerning clients, animals, and staff. I agree not to seek to obtain confidential information from a client.
- I understand that CDCK reserves the right to terminate my Volunteer status without any reason, at its sole discretion. The following are examples of grounds for immediate termination of Volunteer status:
- Abuse or mistreatment of an animal
- Failure to comply with organization policies, rules, or other regulations,
- Unsatisfactory attitude or performance in Volunteer role
- Any other circumstance which would make continued service as a volunteer contrary to the best interest of CDCK
